Despite the challenges, Richmond and his team managed the situation efficiently by finding parking spaces for the incoming jumbo jets. One of the toughest moments for Richmond was having to inform the pilots on the diverted flights about the tragic events that had unfolded that day.
In the aftermath of 9/11, the community at YVR rallied together to support the stranded passengers. The airport’s catering crew provided food to those stuck on the tarmac, while non-profit organizations distributed supplies to passengers in the terminal.
