A woman testifying in a Toronto courtroom disclosed her experience of being sexually assaulted by Frank Stronach many years ago. She recounted feeling powerless during the incident, where Stronach forcefully engaged in sexual acts with her. The woman, who is the seventh complainant in the case against Stronach, expressed her sense of helplessness as she realized there was no way to resist his advances.
During the trial, the woman described how Stronach forcibly removed her clothing and proceeded to sexually assault her. The charges against Stronach, aged 93, include historical offenses such as rape and attempted rape, dating back to the late 1970s and early 1990s. Stronach, the founder of Magna International, has denied all accusations and pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
The woman testified that she initially met Stronach at a restaurant he owned in the early 1980s and later went on a date with him. She narrated the events leading up to the assault, emphasizing that she did not anticipate any inappropriate behavior from Stronach during their encounter. However, she detailed how he coerced her into a private room where the assault took place.
Following the assault, the woman expressed feelings of devastation and trauma. She recounted her distress and the emotional aftermath of the assault, noting that she felt violated and profoundly affected by the experience. Despite initially blaming herself for the incident and attempting to bury the trauma, she eventually decided to come forward in 2024 when news of Stronach’s arrest emerged.
The trial also saw the withdrawal of charges related to the sixth complainant due to concerns about mental health issues. The Crown prosecutor opted to withdraw the sexual assault charge, citing a lack of prospects for conviction. Stronach’s defense lawyer requested a not guilty verdict based on new evidence contradicting the complainant’s statements, prompting the judge to postpone a final decision.
The cross-examination of the woman is set to continue, with further developments expected in the trial proceedings.
