A legal representative for the truck driver responsible for the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus collision has disclosed that his client is moving closer to being sent back to India. Attorney Michael Greene revealed that the Immigration and Refugee Board has denied a plea to allow Jaskirat Singh Sidhu to remain in Canada as a refugee. Consequently, the Canada Border Services Agency is now mandated by law to repatriate Sidhu promptly, although the exact timeline remains uncertain. Greene intends to seek a postponement in this process.
Meanwhile, the board is still deliberating over an earlier submission to reinstate Sidhu’s status as a permanent resident. This application contends that Sidhu should be permitted to stay in Canada on compassionate grounds due to having a child with significant medical needs.
The incident in question occurred when Sidhu failed to yield at a stop sign, colliding with a bus transporting the junior hockey team near Tisdale, Saskatchewan, in April 2018. Sixteen individuals lost their lives, while 13 others sustained injuries.
