An Australian child succumbed to injuries in a hospital following a shark bite incident in Sydney Harbour, as confirmed by the family on Saturday amidst a spate of shark encounters along Australia’s eastern coastline. Nico Antic, aged 12, was attacked while engaging in cliff jumping with friends in Vaucluse, approximately nine kilometers from Sydney’s downtown area. He was rescued from the water by his companions and transported to a medical facility with severe leg injuries.

In a heartfelt statement, the family expressed their devastation over the loss of their son, Nico, describing him as a cheerful, sociable, and athletic youngster with a remarkably kind and generous nature. They fondly remembered him as vibrant and full of life.

Following four shark incidents in two days, numerous beaches, including those in Sydney, were shut down this week due to murky waters caused by heavy rainfall, which could potentially attract more sharks. Earlier in September, a surfer fell victim to a fatal shark attack at Sydney’s Long Reef beach.

Statistics from conservation organizations reveal that Australia typically records around 20 shark attacks annually, with less than three resulting in fatalities. These figures are overshadowed by the higher incidence of drownings at the country’s beaches.
