Tragedy Strikes: Whales Die After Aquarium Transfer

Share

Shedd Aquarium in Chicago has reported the unfortunate passing of two whales following the transfer of 10 beluga whales from Marineland in Niagara Falls, Ontario. One of the deceased whales, Rain, arrived from Marineland in mid-August, while the other, Beethoven, was already a resident at Shedd. This relocation initiative involving 30 belugas and four dolphins among Marineland, Shedd, and several other aquariums has been completed recently.

Tragically, another beluga from Marineland, Peekachu, passed away last week due to severe dehydration. Shedd made immediate efforts to save the whales but unfortunately confirmed the deaths on Wednesday afternoon. The aquarium is now conducting tests and necropsies to determine the cause of the deaths, with no confirmation yet on any potential connection between them.
