Several Taylor Swift songs have been taken down from social media videos shared by the campaign of U.S. President Donald Trump and the White House. These videos had featured two of the popular American singer’s tracks in the past week.
Both the White House and a spokesperson for Taylor Swift did not provide immediate responses to requests for comments. While Swift has not recently addressed Trump directly, she did endorse his Democratic opponent, then-Vice President Kamala Harris, in the 2024 election. During the 2020 campaign, Swift had expressed her disapproval of Trump on social media, stating that the public does not want him as their president.
In response to Swift’s political stance, Trump has been vocal in his criticism of her. He publicly declared his dislike for Swift after her endorsement of Harris, even going as far as to question her popularity. Following Swift’s lead, many artists, including Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, have urged the Trump administration not to use their music in any official capacity.
The Trump campaign featured two of Swift’s songs on their TikTok page within the last week. One video referenced Swift’s famous lyrics, with the caption “Red (Donald Trump’s Version).” Additionally, in June, another video showcased Swift’s new song “I Knew It, I Knew You” from the fictitious movie “Toy Story 5,” alongside footage of Trump engaging with children, attending a UFC match, and participating in a rally at the White House.
This recent incident marks the third time in recent months that the Trump administration or campaign has utilized music from the Grammy Award-winning artist. Previous instances include a video featuring Swift’s “High Infidelity” and another with the song “The Fate of Ophelia” from her album “The Life of a Showgirl.”
The sharing of these videos on social media platforms has generated significant reactions online. A White House spokesperson justified the creation of such videos by highlighting that they would attract attention from news outlets. The Trump administration’s communication team, known for its active presence on social media, has incorporated various hit songs in videos depicting events such as Trump’s immigration policies, military actions, and the arrest of former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
