A tragic incident unfolded outside Bangkok on Friday, resulting in the death of a schoolgirl on Saturday. The incident took place at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, where a 14-year-old boy allegedly carried out a shooting before taking his own life. Prior to the school incident, he also reportedly killed his grandparents at their home. The victim, a 12-year-old girl, succumbed to her injuries after being hospitalized, as confirmed by the Health Ministry.
Following the incident, the school issued a plea for blood donations on Facebook for two injured students, including the deceased girl. Currently, fourteen individuals are receiving medical treatment, with seven in critical condition. Most of the wounded individuals are between the ages of 12 and 14.
The bodies of eight victims, including school staff, the alleged shooter, and his grandparents, were claimed by relatives from Bangkok’s Institute of Forensic Medicine. A total of eight fatalities were reported, with most victims sustaining fatal gunshot wounds to vital areas such as the chest or head.
Authorities revealed that the firearm used in the incident, described as small and compact, was legally registered to the boy’s grandfather. Reports suggested that the boy, who lived with his grandparents, may have exhibited signs of stress related to school. The school, which caters to around 3,000 students aged 12 to 18, announced the suspension of all classes between August 10 and 14.
The community has been left in shock by the tragedy, with mourners paying their respects at the school’s gate. Residents expressed disbelief that such an event could occur in Thailand, describing it as a significant loss. Parents were seen retrieving belongings left behind by their children after the shooting, with some families still grappling with the emotional aftermath of the incident.
