Jasmin Esquivel took a life-changing journey from Saskatchewan to British Columbia earlier this summer, unaware of the surprise awaiting her. Within a few days, Esquivel was crowned Mrs. Canada Universe 2026 at the Bell Performing Arts Centre in Surrey, B.C. “I didn’t anticipate this, especially after many years and having five children,” Esquivel shared with CBC Saskatchewan, expressing her disbelief turned into reality. At 43, after her last pageant experience at 17, the opportunity to participate reignited a spark within her, a feeling she described as being ingrained in her being.

Residing in Prince Albert, Sask., with her children, Esquivel credited her kids for her success and inspiration despite her initial doubts about entering the competition. Her eldest daughter, Brianna Balajonda, reflected on the family’s initial shock and subsequent admiration for Esquivel’s dedication and training. Esquivel emphasized that her children are her driving force and constant companions throughout her pageantry journey, always standing by her side behind the scenes.

The pageant process focused on community contributions, a task Esquivel and her family embraced by volunteering in care homes, organizing sports events, and hosting fun runs in their hometown. She aimed to empower women and mothers to pursue their dreams, emphasizing that motherhood should not hinder personal aspirations. Looking ahead, Esquivel is set to represent Canada and Prince Albert at Mrs. Universe 2026 in Sri Lanka this October, with her children eagerly awaiting to support her on the global stage.

Esquivel’s story resonates with her eldest daughter, who expressed gratitude for witnessing her mother’s journey and being inspired by her ability to balance motherhood with pursuing dreams. The family’s unwavering support and love for Esquivel showcase the bond that propels her forward in her pursuit of Mrs. Universe 2026.
