A significant assault by Russia on Ukraine overnight resulted in the deaths of seven individuals and left dozens injured. Moscow launched over 660 drones and missiles in an attack targeting Dnipro city and other regions. In Dnipro, a section of an apartment building collapsed, leading to the recovery of four bodies from the debris, as confirmed by regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha. Fires broke out in Dnipro, causing damage to multiple structures, including apartment buildings, businesses, and a house, resulting in 27 injuries.
Another casualty occurred in a separate Russian attack on the city later that day, with an additional seven individuals sustaining injuries in the same residential area. Black smoke billowed into the sky on Saturday morning in Dnipro, prompting concerns about air quality among residents.
Russian assaults on Ukraine have been ongoing, with nightly barrages of drones and occasional large-scale attacks involving hundreds of drones and missiles. In the Odesa region, two people were wounded in drone attacks overnight, causing damage to residential buildings, port infrastructure, and vehicles.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko condemned the attacks, stating that Russia continues to target critical infrastructure and residential areas deliberately. In Chernihiv, two individuals lost their lives, and seven others were injured in missile and drone strikes, as reported by the regional governor.
In retaliation, a woman was killed, and a man was seriously injured by a Ukrainian drone strike in Russia’s Belgorod border region. Following the assaults, Romania’s Defence Ministry discovered drone fragments in a residential area near its border with Ukraine. Despite these incidents, no casualties were reported.
The prisoner swap between Russia and Ukraine on Friday was followed by the overnight attacks. While there have been occasional positive outcomes from negotiations between the U.S. and both countries, the talks have made little progress in resolving the ongoing conflict.
During a meeting with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed openness to peace talks with Russia in Azerbaijan. The two leaders also signed agreements on security and energy cooperation, aiming to strengthen Ukraine’s defenses against external threats.
As countries seek Ukraine’s assistance in dealing with security challenges, partnerships between nations are being explored to enhance defense capabilities and military-industrial cooperation.
