The game, witnessed by a full house of 34,352 fans at Mosaic Stadium, saw the Bombers force overtime with a last-second touchdown pass from quarterback Zach Collaros to Dorian Singer.
In the overtime period, the Riders took the lead with a one-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Tommy Stevens, who scored his third touchdown of the game. Despite failing the two-point conversion, the Riders managed to clinch the win by stopping the Bombers on a crucial third-and-six play at the Saskatchewan 31-yard line.
Quarterback Trevor Harris led the Riders to victory with 362 passing yards and one touchdown, acknowledging the team’s resilience in overcoming a slow start. The win improved the Roughriders’ record to 8-4, placing them second in the West Division behind the Edmonton Elks. The Blue Bombers dropped to 6-6 following the defeat.
With key receivers sidelined due to injuries, Dhel Duncan-Busby shined with a standout performance, recording 10 receptions for 140 yards. The Saskatchewan defence, inspired by the offence’s performance, made critical plays at key moments to secure the win.
Harris set a milestone by surpassing Doug Flutie on the CFL’s all-time passing list during the game. He now ranks 10th with 41,590 passing yards. KeeSean Johnson also reached a milestone, surpassing 1,000 receiving yards for the second consecutive season.
The victory sets the stage for a rematch between the Blue Bombers and Roughriders on Saturday, Sept. 12, with the Bombers hosting the Roughriders before the Roughriders visit the Bombers shortly after.
