Federal party leaders are honoring a 45-year-old employee of the Canada Revenue Agency who tragically lost her life in Montreal. The Union of Taxation Employees has identified the individual as Leila Ben Salem. Prime Minister Mark Carney extended his sympathies to Ben Salem’s family, colleagues, and loved ones on behalf of the federal government. During a session in the House of Commons, Carney mentioned that the deceased employee was committed to serving Canadians and indicated that she was on duty when the incident occurred.

Authorities in Montreal discovered the woman’s body at her residence in the Ville-Marie borough on Tuesday following a welfare check request. While the police have engaged with a person of interest in connection with the case, no arrests have been made as of Thursday afternoon.

Carney assured that government officials would collaborate to ensure that justice is served for the perpetrator. He emphasized, “Ms. Ben Salem was a respected member of the Canada Revenue Agency, dedicated to serving Canadians, which she was actively doing when she was attacked. The Government of Canada, along with all members present, will exert all efforts to assist law enforcement in holding the culprit accountable for this heinous act.” Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre also expressed his condolences for Ben Salem, recognizing her as a valued public service member who met a tragic end.
