“Oscars 2023: Winners So Far Revealed!”

The Academy Awards, the pinnacle event in Hollywood, are captivating film enthusiasts worldwide as they eagerly await the winners of the coveted Oscar trophies. This year’s ceremony, emceed by Conan O’Brien, is unfolding at the prestigious Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Leading the pack with a groundbreaking 16 nominations is Ryan Coogler’s film “Sinners,” closely followed by Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” with 13 nominations. The first award of the night was presented to Amy Madigan for her outstanding performance in the movie “Weapons,” earning her the best supporting actress accolade. Subsequently, Sean Penn clinched the supporting actor Oscar for his role in “One Battle After Another,” marking his third Academy Award win.

Among the winners are three Canadians, with Toronto director Maggie Kang securing the best animated feature Oscar for “KPop Demon Hunters.” Additionally, Canadian production designers Tamara Deverell and Shane Vieau, known for their work on Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” are returning home with their own Oscar statuettes. Montreal filmmakers Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski also triumphed in the best animated short film category for “The Girl Who Cried Pearls.”

“So far, “One Battle After Another” has garnered four Oscars, including awards for best adapted screenplay and casting, a new category after 24 years. “Frankenstein,” filmed in Toronto, has clinched three awards, while “Sinners” has received three accolades, including Ryan Coogler’s win for best original screenplay.
