Olympic snowboarder Mark McMorris injured in big air training

Canadian snowboarder Mark McMorris, a three-time Olympic bronze medalist, suffered a crash during training for the upcoming Milano-Cortina Winter Games. The incident occurred during a big air training session, leading to McMorris being stretchered off the course. The 32-year-old athlete, competing in his fourth Olympics, was preparing for the qualifying rounds scheduled just before the opening ceremony.

The Canadian Olympic Committee confirmed the accident in a statement, mentioning that McMorris had a significant crash during training. He was being attended to by the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canada Snowboard staff, with more updates promised as information became available.

In big air snowboarding, athletes execute multiple spins after launching off a ramp, with the one in Livigno exceeding 50 meters in height and constructed on scaffolding. McMorris, known for his success in slopestyle and big air disciplines, has faced severe injuries in the past, including a life-threatening incident in 2017. Despite enduring surgeries and recovering from various injuries, he expressed his physical readiness for the Winter Olympics.
