A 13-year-old boy from a community in Nova Scotia has tragically passed away after being attacked by three dogs. The boy, identified as Drew Nickerson, was known for his love of the outdoors and was described as a friendly individual in a heartfelt tribute penned by a family member. A fundraising campaign has been set up online to support the boy’s mother during this difficult time.

Drew was a Grade 8 student at Shelburne Regional High School, and his untimely death has deeply impacted those around him. The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education expressed its condolences and stated that the school is providing support to students coping with the loss.

The incident occurred on Upper Sandy Cove Road in Welshtown, N.S., situated approximately 12 kilometers north of Shelburne, as Drew was riding his bicycle around 5 p.m. on Saturday. Following the attack, he was airlifted by LifeFlight helicopter to a hospital in Halifax, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities have confirmed that the dogs involved in the attack, described as “large-breed,” were euthanized by a veterinarian. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) mentioned that their investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.

The community is devastated by the tragic loss of Drew Nickerson and continues to mourn the young boy’s passing.
