Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have officially ended their 19-year marriage, marking the conclusion of a long-standing union between two influential figures in the entertainment industry. The dissolution of their marriage was finalized by a Nashville judge during a recent hearing.
Judge Stephanie J. Williams oversaw the proceedings and approved the couple’s agreements regarding the division of assets and custody arrangements, leading to the granting of the divorce. The judge cited irreconcilable differences as the primary reason for the dissolution, deeming the continuation of the marriage impractical and unfeasible.
Both Kidman and Urban opted not to attend the hearing, and requests for comments from their representatives remain unanswered. Kidman had initiated the divorce process in September, a move that surprised many but had evidently been in the works for some time. Legal matters pertaining to assets and custody had been resolved and signed on the same day she filed for divorce.
In compliance with Tennessee law, there is a mandatory 90-day waiting period for couples with minor children before the divorce can be finalized. Kidman, 58, and Urban, also 58, share two teenage daughters and had acknowledged “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences” in their divorce filing.
The agreement outlines Kidman as the primary residential parent for their children, with plans for them to continue residing in Nashville. Both parties agreed to forgo child and spousal support, and a fair division of joint assets was arranged.
Hailing from Australia, Kidman and Urban first crossed paths in Los Angeles in 2005 and tied the knot in Sydney the following year. Throughout their relationship, they were a familiar sight on red carpets, with Urban supporting Kidman at the Oscars and Kidman accompanying him to music award ceremonies. Despite openly discussing challenges in their marriage, the decision to divorce came as a surprise to many observers.
This marriage was Urban’s first and Kidman’s second, following her previous marriage to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001. Kidman also has two older children from her marriage with Cruise.
