The Las Vegas Raiders have dismissed Pete Carroll following a disappointing season that saw the team finish with a 3-14 record, including a 10-game losing streak. Despite Carroll’s aspirations for success, the Raiders managed to end the season on a positive note with a victory over Kansas City. Owner Mark Davis and minority owner Tom Brady will collaborate with general manager John Spytek in the search for a new head coach, with a focus on possibly hiring an offensive-minded coach to mentor their young quarterback. Carroll, 74, who was the oldest head coach in the NFL, had previously guided the Seahawks to a Super Bowl championship.
In Arizona, the Cardinals have parted ways with coach Jonathan Gannon after a disappointing third season that started with high hopes but quickly unraveled due to injuries, costly mistakes, and a string of noncompetitive losses. The team’s woes culminated in a 37-20 defeat by the Los Angeles Rams, marking their ninth consecutive loss and 14th defeat in 15 games.
The Cleveland Browns have also made a coaching change, firing Kevin Stefanski after his six-season tenure. Stefanski, a two-time AP NFL Coach of the Year, led the Browns to playoff appearances in 2020 and 2023 but struggled to maintain consistency, finishing the season with a 5-12 record. This marks the fourth coaching change in the NFL this season, with Tennessee’s Brian Callahan, the New York Giants’ Brian Daboll, and Atlanta’s Raheem Morris also being let go.
Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank has announced a series of organizational changes aimed at revitalizing the struggling team, including the dismissal of coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot after eight consecutive losing seasons. Blank revealed plans for additional upper management changes, including the appointment of a new president of football operations from outside the organization. The new president will report directly to Blank, taking over from Greg Beadles, who will now oversee business operations while Rich McKay assumes the role of CEO of AMB Sports and Entertainment. Morris and Fontenot’s departures followed the Falcons’ 19-17 victory over the New Orleans Saints, capping off their second straight 8-9 season but failing to secure a winning season or playoff berth since 2017.
