KristĂ˝na Kaltounková and Anne Cherkowski both found the back of the net, with Kayle Osborne making 31 saves as the New York Sirens triumphed over the Montreal Victoire 2-1 during the PWHL’s Takeover Tour at Capital One Arena. Montreal, with a record of 5-2-0-5, saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.

The game, held in Washington, D.C., drew an announced crowd of 17,228 spectators, setting a new record for in-arena attendance at a women’s hockey game in the United States. The previous attendance record of 16,014 fans was established on November 28 during the inaugural home game of the Seattle Torrent.

Sarah Fillier contributed two assists for New York (7-0-1-5), who have secured victory in five of their last six games. The Sirens currently hold 22 points, trailing league-leading Boston by four points and leading third-place Minnesota by one.

Kaltounková, the top overall pick in the 2025 PWHL draft, has netted nine goals this season, tying with Minnesota’s Kendall Coyne Schofield for the most goals in the league. Maggie Flaherty scored a power-play goal for the Victoire towards the end of the first period.

Kaltounková opened the scoring just 84 seconds into the game by slotting home a rebound from Fillier’s shot. Despite struggling on their previous nine power-play opportunities, the Sirens managed to convert this time, improving their season’s extra skater performance to 5 of 40.

Cherkowski broke the tie, giving the Sirens a 2-1 advantage with 5:13 remaining in the second period. Fillier redirected a faceoff to Levis, who then deflected a wrister that Cherkowski redirected into the net over the glove-side shoulder of goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens for her first career goal.

Desbiens made 25 saves for the Victoire.

Having previously been defeated 4-0 by Montreal on November 25, New York avenged their loss with a 4-3 victory at home on January 2, where Osborne achieved a career-high 43 saves. Montreal will next face Minnesota on Wednesday, while New York is set to host Ottawa on Tuesday.
