Arnaud Gaudet, a snowboarder hailing from Montcalm, Quebec, secured a silver medal at a World Cup snowboard parallel giant slalom competition held in Bansko, Bulgaria. Gaudet was narrowly beaten by Austria’s Benjamin Karl, who clinched the gold medal by a slim 0.68-second margin in the final round. Meanwhile, Switzerland’s Gian Casanova emerged victorious in the small final to claim the bronze medal.

Throughout the day, the 25-year-old Gaudet displayed exceptional skills, triumphing over competitors like Slovenia’s Tim Mastnak in the round of 16, Austria’s Alexander Payer in the quarterfinals, and Germany’s Yannik Argenend in the semifinals.

As a result of his performance, Gaudet ascended to 10th place in the overall World Cup standings with a total of 193 points. Notably, Gaudet, who previously won a bronze medal in parallel giant slalom at the 2023 world championships, represented Canada at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. The men’s parallel giant slalom event at the upcoming Milan Cortina Games is scheduled to take place on February 8 in Livigno, Italy.

In the women’s event, Aurelie Moisan from Baie d’Urfe, Quebec, achieved the highest Canadian ranking with a commendable sixth-place finish. The gold medal in the women’s event was secured by Germany’s Ramona Theresia Hofmeister, followed by silver for Poland’s Aleksandra Krol-Walas and bronze for Japan’s Tsubaki Miki.

The snowboarding action in Bansko will continue on Sunday, commencing at 5:45 a.m. ET on CBCSports.ca and CBC Gem.
