Military Time surged ahead of Brachetto in a thrilling finish to secure the $500,000 Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie, Ontario. Guided by 22-year-old jockey Fraser Aebly, Military Time made a strategic move, overtaking Brachetto and Keepmypowderdry in the final stretch at the Fort Erie Racetrack.
Aebly expressed his excitement post-race, stating, “He was fighting for me the whole race, it was crazy.” The competition was intense in this year’s Prince of Wales Stakes, the second event in the Canadian Triple Crown, keeping fans on edge until the very end. The top three horses, Military Time, Brachetto, and Keepmypowderdry, raced closely together, but it was Military Time that displayed superior speed, crossing the finish line first in 1.56.
Reflecting on the race, Aebly shared, “He jumped out of the gate well, and I aimed to maintain a forward position due to the track conditions. We secured our spot, and he ran smoothly for me.” Despite the pressure from competitors, Aebly’s strategic positioning and Military Time’s performance led them to victory.
Military Time, who previously finished second to Luster in the $1-million King’s Plate at Woodbine Racetrack, was the early favorite with odds of 2-1 for the Prince of Wales Stakes. Brachetto claimed the second spot, followed by Buium in third place, while Keepmypowderdry settled for fourth among the eight contenders.
Notably, Luster did not participate in the Prince of Wales Stakes, making Wando the most recent horse to achieve the Canadian Triple Crown in 2003. The upcoming Breeders’ Stakes, the final leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, is scheduled for September 27 at Woodbine, with live coverage available on CBCSports.ca and CBC Gem.
