Actor Kiefer Sutherland was taken into custody early Monday following a report of an altercation with a ride-hail driver, as confirmed by authorities. The incident occurred shortly after midnight at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Ave., just south of Hollywood Hills. Los Angeles police stated that the 59-year-old Canadian actor, known for his Emmy award-winning performances, physically attacked the driver after entering the ride-hail vehicle and also made threats against the driver. Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any injuries requiring medical attention at the time.
Sutherland was apprehended by officers on suspicion of making criminal threats, the police reported. He was later released from jail after posting a $50,000 US bond, as indicated by jail records. His initial court appearance is set for Feb. 2, according to the same records. An email inquiry sent to Sutherland’s representatives remains unanswered at this time.
The actor is most recognized for his iconic role as federal agent Jack Bauer in the Fox TV series “24” and its various derivatives. Additionally, he has starred in notable films like “The Lost Boys” and “Young Guns,” and featured in movies directed by Rob Reiner, such as “Stand by Me” and “A Few Good Men.”
Sutherland comes from a family deeply rooted in the entertainment industry, being the son of Canadian actors Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas. He is also the grandson of former Saskatchewan premier Tommy Douglas, renowned for introducing universal healthcare to Canada.
