After more than a decade of conducting interviews and engaging with movie stars, musicians, and athletes over some fried chicken, Amelia Dimoldenberg, the host of the renowned YouTube talk show “Chicken Shop Date,” revealed this week that she is concluding the show.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Dimoldenberg expressed her sentiments about the show, describing it as her personal romantic comedy filled with stories that she enjoyed creating for her audience. She expressed gratitude to her followers for their support throughout the journey and the joy they found in the episodes.
Dimoldenberg initiated the show 12 years ago by interviewing musicians in the underground rap scene in Britain. Over time, she expanded her guest list to include celebrities such as Keke Palmer, Conan O’Brien, Paul McCartney, and Jack Harlow, accumulating nearly 3.5 million subscribers on her YouTube channel.
“Chicken Shop Date” maintains a straightforward format where Dimoldenberg goes on a quasi-date with a celebrity at a fried chicken shop in London, posing a mix of flirty, humorous, and occasionally awkward questions. The dynamic often resembles first-date banter rather than a conventional talk show interview, occasionally leading to playful exchanges akin to flirting, as seen in her interaction with Andrew Garfield.
Among her numerous interviews, Dimoldenberg has also engaged with Canadian stars, including Ryan Reynolds, who playfully misidentified a character from “Gossip Girl” in reference to his wife, Blake Lively. During a 2023 episode, Shania Twain disclosed that she had never actually met Brad Pitt, despite mentioning him in her song “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
The success of her YouTube channel has opened doors to new opportunities for Dimoldenberg, such as covering the Oscars red carpet this year, where she interviewed Canadian actor Hudson Williams. While her future plans post-“Chicken Shop Date” remain undisclosed, Dimoldenberg is set to develop a young adult drama series for the BBC.
