“Heated Rivalry Sweeps Canadian Screen Awards”

The highly popular hockey series “Heated Rivalry” took home multiple top honors at the Canadian Screen Awards, including the best drama series award and best lead performer recognition for Hudson Williams. The show had an impressive run, winning a total of 16 awards in its first season after receiving 13 accolades from 18 nominations during the previous night’s gala.

Another Canadian hit, the CBC/Netflix Arctic comedy “North of North,” secured the best comedy series award and best lead performer title for Anna Lambe. The show, filmed in Nunavut, earned a total of seven awards on Saturday, including best writing and best supporting performer, with a total of 20 nominations.

In the movie category, the acclaimed comedy “Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie” triumphed as the best motion picture, surpassing R.T. Thorne’s post-apocalyptic thriller “40 Acres.”

Toronto-born artist Jay McCarrol clinched the award for best performance in a leading role for the movie adaptation of the cult-classic series. The film’s success was further highlighted by Matt Johnson’s win for best supporting performance in a comedy, who also directed and co-wrote the movie.

Fans gathered at the CBC Broadcast Centre in Toronto for the awards ceremony, eagerly awaiting appearances from “Heated Rivalry” stars Hudson Williams and Sophie Nélisse, whose performances contributed to the show’s global popularity. The series, which features a romantic storyline between two hockey players portrayed by Williams and Connor Storrie, has captivated audiences worldwide.

Sophie Nélisse, known for her role as Rose Landry in the series, received the prestigious Radius Award, recognizing her international impact and contribution to Canada’s reputation in the global entertainment industry.

The event, hosted by Calgary-born actor and comedian Andrew Phung, celebrated the surge of Canadian content gaining mainstream recognition. The night also honored comedian Mike Myers with the Icon Award for his significant contributions to the industry.

The Canadian Screen Awards made history with a multi-network broadcast, showcasing support for Canadian talent across various platforms. The ceremony featured a tribute to the late Catherine O’Hara, an iconic Canadian actor, by her longtime friend and colleague Eugene Levy.
