Hamilton police have reported that a location previously secured by an anti-immigration group for their upcoming national conference has revoked the reservation. The Dominion Society of Canada had planned to hold its DomCon conference in the “Hamilton area” on August 29 with Canadian and international speakers. However, the venue’s cancellation details, including the reason and timing, were not disclosed by the authorities.
Following warnings from various Hamilton groups, such as the Hamilton Anti-Racism Resource Centre (HARRC), cautioning venues against hosting the event, the Mayor of Hamilton also issued a letter advising businesses to be vigilant. Despite these alerts, HARRC noted the Dominion Society’s ongoing efforts to secure an alternate venue under different aliases, including Ridgeway Media.
In response to inquiries about the cancelled booking, the Dominion Society confirmed that its event, known as DOMCON26, is proceeding as planned despite opposition from media, politicians, and activists. The group’s co-founder and chair, Daniel Tyrie, stated that the event is sold out and emphasized that it will go ahead as scheduled.
The Dominion Society, a registered non-profit organization based in Ottawa, advocates for remigration, aiming to deport millions of immigrants from Canada. While the group denies promoting fear and hate, it has faced criticism from community organizations and politicians. According to the Canadian Anti-Hate Network, the Dominion Society has been linked to white nationalist groups like Diagolon and Second Sons.
HARRC has urged venue owners to be cautious and inquire about any potential association with DomCon when renting out their spaces. Additionally, B’nai Brith Canada has called on federal authorities to prevent foreign extremists from participating in the conference, citing concerns about spreading hatred and extremism in Canadian society.
Regarding security measures, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) clarified that entry denial could be based on security grounds rather than personal beliefs. While Hamilton Police Service did not disclose specific operational plans, they assured collaboration with partners to address any potential risks or disruptions linked to DomCon 2026.
