Hamilton Forge clinched their spot in the Telus Canadian Championship final after defeating Supra du Quebec 1-0 on Tuesday. Ben Paton netted the lone goal for Forge in the 26th minute. The initial leg of the semifinal concluded in a 1-1 tie.
Supra managed 12 shots compared to Hamilton’s eight, with three shots on target for Supra and two for Forge. Hamilton outperformed Supra in corner kicks with a 6-5 advantage.
In the upcoming second leg of the semifinal, CF Montreal will face off against the Vancouver Whitecaps, following their 1-1 draw in the first leg. The triumphant team will host Hamilton Forge in the final on October 21.
The Telus Canadian Championship is the premier domestic knockout tournament in Canada, where clubs vie for the Voyageurs Cup and an opportunity to compete internationally in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Since its inception in 2002, only MLS clubs from Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto FC have claimed the Voyageurs Cup. The Whitecaps have secured four consecutive Voyageurs titles, with their latest victory being a 4-2 triumph over Vancouver FC in the previous year’s final.
