A contestant on the BBC quiz show “Only Connect” once mentioned participating in an international whistling contest, sparking the curiosity of graphic journalist Ben Shannon and leading him to sign up for the Masters of Musical Whistling mailing list with his daughter, Sumire. Initially taking it lightly, Shannon soon realized the competition’s seriousness as they were selected to audition. Coaching sessions with Carole Anne Kaufman, known as the Whistling Diva, revealed the need for dedicated practice.
Despite initial doubts, Shannon and Sumire committed to daily training sessions, eventually earning a spot in the competition held in Los Angeles.
