“Goodfood’s License Suspended by CFIA, No Product Recall”

The license of Goodfood, a meal kit and grocery delivery service based in Montreal, has been temporarily suspended by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The suspension of the Safe Food for Canadians license does not involve any product recall, as stated in a recent CFIA news release.

According to the regulations under the Safe Food for Canadians program, businesses involved in the manufacturing, processing, preservation, or packaging of food for interprovincial or territorial distribution must hold a valid license. The CFIA has mentioned that the license suspension will be lifted once the necessary corrective actions are taken by the company.

The issues leading to the suspension, in the case of Goodfood, pertain to preventive controls outlined in part four of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, as highlighted by the federal agency. Failure to address the non-compliances within 90 days could result in the cancellation of the license, as per the CFIA statement.

The CFIA has the authority to suspend Safe Food for Canadians licenses for various reasons, including non-compliance with regulations, failure to pay associated fees, or if the ongoing operations pose a risk to public safety.

Responding to the suspension, an unnamed representative from Goodfood Market Corp. expressed disappointment in the decision affecting the Montreal facility but clarified that the Calgary facility remains operational. The company reassured customers of the safety and quality of its products, emphasizing that there are no food safety issues at the facilities, with the suspension primarily concerning procedural matters related to the license.

Goodfood has requested a review of its case and is optimistic about addressing any perceived gaps promptly. The company assured customers that service disruptions will be minimal, with deliveries continuing across the country, albeit with some exceptions.
