The Minnesota Frost secured a 3-2 victory over the New York Sirens in an intense match in Newark, N.J., with Kendall Coyne Schofield’s overtime goal assisted by Taylor Heise sealing the win. Coyne Schofield’s tally brought her season points total to 14, while Heise notched her 10th assist, four of which have been in the last two games.
This game marked the first of five regular-season encounters between Minnesota (5-2-2-3) and New York (6-0-1-5). In the previous season, the Sirens held a 3-2-1-0 advantage over Minnesota.
Heise initiated the scoring with an assist to Britta Curl-Salemme, who capitalized on a Sirens goaltender error to net her fifth goal of the season and league-leading 14th point. Curl-Salemme has been a consistent performer with points in 10 out of 12 games this season.
Minnesota extended their lead to 2-1 early in the second period through Kelly Pannek’s goal just 35 seconds in, with Coyne Schofield providing the assist. New York responded with Casey O’Brien’s equalizer late in the first period and Taylor Girard’s goal in the second, tying the game at 2-2.
Looking ahead, Minnesota will face Montreal at home on Wednesday, while New York will play against Montreal in a Takeover Tour game at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on Sunday.
