A U.S. congressional committee has informed the Justice Department about allegations of “criminal conduct” involving two individuals, based on interviews conducted over several months regarding Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and their associates. The House oversight committee, led by Kentucky Republican James Comer, sent a letter to acting attorney general Todd Blanche outlining the referrals made after an interview with Sarah Kellen, a former assistant of Epstein. The committee members, all Republicans, joined in signing the letter.
While a criminal investigation referral does not legally compel the Justice Department to take action, Blanche testified before the Senate recently that they would consider any evidence supporting a case. The transcript of Kellen’s interview, released on Thursday, provided insights into her experiences with Epstein and Maxwell. Kellen, who was not a minor when she met them, has faced legal implications in Florida and New York as an Epstein co-conspirator.
During the interview, Kellen detailed alleged repeated assaults by Epstein, describing him as manipulative and sometimes violent. She also mentioned interactions with individuals such as French photographer Frédéric Fekkai and former Miami Beach mayor Philip Levine, where she claimed to have been taken advantage of. Kellen’s involvement in Epstein’s activities came to light following his federal indictment in 2019.
Kellen also discussed her views on Maxwell, stating that she was a victim of Maxwell’s abuse as well. When asked about Maxwell’s potential clemency, Kellen expressed opposition, emphasizing the harm caused by Maxwell’s actions.
