Led by experienced sexual assault nurse examiner Ronnie Biletsky, a 24/7 program at the Truant Family Medical Suite in Red Deer offers forensic and medical care to individuals of all ages in the region.
This innovative model provides a quiet and private environment, ensuring individualized attention for each patient. With a focus on comfort and support, the suite offers amenities such as handmade blankets, positive message T-shirts, therapy dogs, and specialized forensic imaging equipment. Patients have expressed high satisfaction with the care received, with Biletsky highlighting the importance of creating a safe space for survivors.
Operated as a satellite campus, the facility collaborates closely with the nearby Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, ensuring patients receive comprehensive care under the supervision of emergency physicians. The success of this program has sparked interest in replicating the model in other locations, with hopes for broader adoption in the future.
The initiative faced initial challenges but emerged through extensive collaboration among various organizations, including Alberta Health Services, RCMP, Primary Care, social services, and community donors.
