The Vancouver Canucks have secured the services of defenseman Zeev Buium for an additional eight years under a contract extension valued at $9.38 million per season, as disclosed by the team on Friday. Buium, a 20-year-old player, contributed three goals and nine assists in 45 games during the previous season with Vancouver.
In December, Buium was traded from the Minnesota Wild to Vancouver as part of a significant deal that involved former Canucks captain Quinn Hughes moving to Minnesota. With a career spanning 76 NHL games between the Wild and Canucks, the San Diego native has accumulated six goals and 20 assists.
Originally chosen as the 12th overall pick by Minnesota in the 2024 NHL draft, Buium achieved an NCAA championship victory with the University of Denver in the same year. Furthermore, he has celebrated various international successes, including winning gold at the 2023 world under-18 championship, as well as at the 2024 and 2025 world junior championships, and the 2025 world championship.
