The Canadian women’s hockey team is set to face off against the United States on October 28 in Windsor, Ontario, for an exhibition match in preparation for the 2026 world championship, as announced by Hockey Canada on Tuesday. Additionally, details regarding a second pre-tournament game in the United States will be disclosed in the upcoming days.
Scheduled to take place from November 6 to 16 in Herning and Esbjerg, Denmark, the women’s world hockey championships will see Canada competing against various teams. Following their defeat to the United States in the gold-medal game at the Milan Cortina Olympics in February, Canada will kick off the tournament against Sweden on November 6. The Canadian team will also go head-to-head against Japan, Denmark, and Finland during the pool play matches.
This tournament marks Canada’s first appearance under Danièle Sauvageau’s leadership, who took over as the national team’s general manager from Gina Kingsbury. Notably, a replacement for the former head coach Troy Ryan, who held the position for six years, has yet to be appointed.
Unfortunately, team captain Marie-Philip Poulin is expected to miss the tournament due to a recent surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and torn meniscus in her right knee that she underwent in July.
