Victoria Mboko and Felix Auger-Aliassime have started the 2026 tennis season impressively. The Canadian duo led their team to a 3-0 victory over China in the United Cup mixed teams event. Auger-Aliassime, ranked No. 5 in men’s singles, defeated Zhang Zhizhen 6-4, 6-4, while Mboko, ranked 18th in women’s singles, came back from a set down to defeat Lin Zhu 2-6, 6-2, 6-0. They later combined to secure a 6-1, 6-3 win in mixed doubles against Xiaodi You and Rigele Te.
Auger-Aliassime had a successful previous season, reaching the U.S. Open semifinals, winning an ATP 250 title in Brussels, and reaching the ATP Finals semifinals. The 25-year-old from Montreal expressed satisfaction with his season-opening victory, emphasizing the importance of playing well under pressure.
Mboko, aged 19, had a remarkable rise in the past season, climbing from outside the top 300 to break into the top 20. She claimed the WTA 1000 National Bank Open title in Montreal and ended the 2025 season on a high note by winning the Hong Kong Open.
Canada’s next match in the United Cup will be against Belgium on Tuesday. The tournament is set to conclude on January 11.
