The Canadian government has granted emergency assistance of $76 million to Flair Airlines as airlines face financial challenges due to the escalating cost of jet fuel. Flair CEO Len Corrado emphasized the significance of the aid, indicating that government officials recognize the gravity of the situation and aim to maintain competitiveness within the industry.
The Canada Enterprise Emergency Funding Corp. disclosed that it has authorized bailout loans to help mitigate the impact of surging fuel prices and enhance the affordability of air travel. The loan, provided to Flair Airlines, is required to be repaid within four years, with interest rates below the prevailing market rates.
In a similar vein, Transat A.T. Inc., the parent company of Air Transat, has secured $430 million in financial support since the onset of the conflict in Iran in late February. The conflict has led to a sharp increase in energy costs, resulting in jet fuel prices nearly doubling compared to a year ago.
Furthermore, Porter Airlines recently received a $125-million bailout loan from the government to address the financial strains caused by the soaring fuel expenses.
