“Canada Soccer Secures Groundbreaking CBA for National Teams”

Share

Canada Soccer and the player unions representing the senior national teams have officially approved a new collective bargaining agreement. The agreement solidifies a framework deal made in 2024 with both the men’s and women’s national teams. Prior to the ratification, a revised agreement with Canadian Soccer Media & Entertainment (formerly Canadian Soccer Business) was necessary. In February, a new 12-year deal was reached, providing significant financial support to the governing body.

The collective bargaining agreement is effective from June 1, 2024, until December 31, 2027. Canada Soccer announced that the agreement ensures fair compensation and benefits for both the men’s and women’s national teams. Notable provisions include a no-strike, no-lockout clause, the introduction of revenue sharing, and players receiving a share of ticket proceeds from home friendly matches.

Furthermore, revenue from the World Cup will be divided, with group-stage earnings and prize money from the knockout stage being distributed equally between the men’s and women’s teams. A special World Cup friends and family initiative will provide $20,000 to players for group-stage assistance, along with an additional $5,000 per match for travel and accommodation expenses for family members.

This agreement coincides with Canada’s preparation to host 13 matches of the 2026 World Cup in Vancouver and Toronto.
