A ferry with over 260 passengers onboard overturned near northern Cyprus on Sunday, as per reports from Turkish media. The catamaran ferry was en route from Kyrenia (Girne) in the north of Cyprus to the Turkish port of Tasucu in Mersin province. Fortunately, there have been no casualties reported yet. The incident occurred a few kilometers off the coast, causing the ferry to start taking in water. Erhan Arikli, the Transportation Minister of northern Cyprus, confirmed that the ship had capsized and rescue teams were already at the site. Various companies operate ferries on the popular Kyrenia-Tasucu route, but the specific operator of the capsized ferry is currently unknown. Video footage depicts individuals wearing life vests floating in the water near the overturned vessel.
