Shalu Shajan, an Indian immigrant, detailed the incident that occurred after he parked his car on Lower Water Street in downtown Halifax. The man playing the bagpipes approached Shajan’s car and hit his side mirror with the instrument before striking the trunk as well. This led to a confrontation where the aggressor began shouting racist remarks, telling Shajan to “go back to your country.” Eyewitness Raven Fox corroborated the altercation and mentioned the racial undertones in the man’s remarks. Following the incident, Shajan reported the matter to the Halifax Regional Police and their hate crime unit, providing a photo of the individual involved.
