150 corgis from various countries gathered for an international race celebrating the small herding dogs that originated in Wales. Apart from the speed race, the event featured a costume parade, a contest for the “smartest nose,” and a competition for the loudest bark.
The fifth Corgi Race Vilnius took place in Lithuania’s Vingis Park and attracted participants from nine countries, including Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Estonia, Germany, Ukraine, Czech Republic, the United States, and Britain. The race saw 94 dogs competing in qualifiers, semifinals, and the final round.
In the final 25-meter race, American corgi GG, also known as Gustave the Girl Dog, emerged as the winner, with Mr. Corgington from the U.S. coming in a close second and Lithuania’s Moka finishing third.
The event showcased more than just speed, with activities such as a costume parade, a “smartest nose” challenge where dogs searched for hidden treats, and a contest for the loudest bark. Notably, Mr. Corgington won the loudest bark competition.
The race also featured dogs in diverse costumes, with Amigo winning both the jury and public vote for the best costume. Duke, a 12-year-old Pembroke Welsh corgi from England, didn’t participate in the main race due to his age but competed in the loudest bark contest.
Overall, the event brought together corgi enthusiasts from around the world, highlighting the unique talents and personalities of these beloved herding dogs.
