Sabrina and Junior Hunt were surprised on their trip to their cabin on Shabougamou Lake in Labrador West when they came across an unexpected sight. Initially mistaking it for a pile of wood, they soon realized it was a rare muskox roaming along the shoreline. Captured on video by Junior Hunt, the majestic muskox was seen leisurely moving about as the couple approached from their boat.
Describing the encounter, Sabrina mentioned how the muskox appeared large and black from a distance but became more intriguing as they drew nearer. The couple had a closer look at the animal from approximately 30 feet away, marveling at its fur flowing like a magical grass skirt in the breeze.
While muskox are typically found in the Arctic tundra, occasional sightings have been reported in Labrador, with some speculating that this muskox may have migrated from northern Quebec. The Department of Forestry, Agriculture, and Lands expressed surprise at the rare sighting and commended the couple for capturing clear images and video footage of the unusual visitor.
