Canada’s female sitting volleyball team has advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Championships following a commanding victory. The Canadian squad defeated France decisively with set scores of 25-10, 25-12, and 25-14 in Hangzhou, China, maintaining a perfect 4-0 record in the tournament. They will now face Iran, ranked ninth globally, in the quarterfinals on July 15 at 3:30 a.m. ET, vying for a spot in the top four.
Reflecting on the win, Anna Dunn of Team Canada praised the team’s performance, acknowledging some lapses but commending their resilience in overcoming mistakes. Dunn attributed their success to the cohesive teamwork and support from coaches and staff.
On the men’s side, the Canadian team was eliminated in the round of 16 after a defeat to the United States in straight sets (25-22, 25-16, 25-23). Despite the loss, player Andrew Tucker highlighted the team’s effort and unity, viewing it as a positive step forward for future competitions.
Moving forward, Canada’s men will shift to the classification round, competing for a final ranking between ninth and 16th. Their next match is against Croatia on July 15 in China or July 14 at 9:30 p.m. ET. The tournament will conclude on July 17, with the championship matches for both men’s and women’s divisions. Additionally, the event serves as a qualifying opportunity for the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, with the top two teams from each category securing automatic qualification.
