Canada’s national women’s volleyball team achieved a significant milestone in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League competition held in Quebec City. They secured their first-ever victory against the United States in the tournament’s history, outplaying the Olympic silver medalists with a clean sweep of 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 30-28) at Centre Videotron. Despite trailing 20-14 in the third set, Canada staged an impressive comeback to clinch the set and the match.
Three Canadian players stood out in the triumph, with Kiera Van Ryk leading the charge with 17 points, followed by Alexa Gray with 14 points and Emily Maglio with 13 points. The victory came after Canada’s earlier 3-1 loss (28-26, 22-25, 25-18, 25-18) to Germany in the tournament’s opening match on Wednesday.
The Canadian team’s next challenge will be against France on Saturday as they aim to build on their recent success in the tournament.
