Canadian tennis player Gabriela Dabrowski’s journey at the French Open came to an end on Friday with a significant loss in the women’s doubles semifinals. The top-ranked duo of Katerina Siniakova from Czechia and Taylor Townsend from the United States dominated Dabrowski and her partner, Luisa Stefani from Brazil, with a score of 6-0, 6-1.

Despite the defeat, Dabrowski, reflecting on her performance, expressed pride in reaching the semifinals and securing a spot in the mixed doubles final. She mentioned that considering their injuries earlier in the year, achieving victory in Strasbourg and making it to the French Open semis exceeded their expectations. The 34-year-old athlete, hailing from Ottawa, will depart Paris with a total prize money of nearly 105,500 euros ($170,000) from both events.

Dabrowski faced physical challenges during the tournament, including a foot injury that disrupted her pre-season preparation and caused her to arrive late for the Australian season’s opening. Additionally, she has been managing a knee problem and a plantar fascia tear in her left foot. Alongside Stefani, she skipped the WTA 1000 event in Madrid but managed to clinch the WTA 500 title in Strasbourg before their successful French Open campaign.

Following their achievements in Strasbourg and Paris, Dabrowski will rise from the 6th to the 3rd position in the WTA individual doubles rankings, trailing closely behind Siniakova and Townsend. Despite facing a tough loss in the French Open semifinals, Dabrowski acknowledged the exceptional performance of their opponents, emphasizing the need to elevate their game for future tournaments.

Looking ahead, Dabrowski aims to implement lessons learned from the French Open as she prepares for upcoming competitions. She highlighted the importance of improving their performance to face formidable opponents like Townsend and Siniakova, who won 90% of points on their first serve during their match.

In another match, Dabrowski and her mixed doubles partner Evan King battled fiercely against Italian duo Andrea Vavassori and Sara Errani, taking the match to a tiebreak before succumbing to defeat. Despite the challenges faced, Dabrowski remains optimistic about future opportunities to compete against top-tier opponents and enhance their gameplay strategy.

Meanwhile, in the men’s singles, Alexander Zverev advanced to the French Open final after defeating Czech player Jakub Mensik in the semifinals. Zverev is now one step closer to claiming his first Grand Slam title, setting up a final showdown against Flavio Cobolli. Cobolli secured a spot in the final after Matteo Arnaldi’s withdrawal due to illness, paving the way for an intense championship match between the two competitors.
