Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett has been selected to join Canada’s men’s hockey team for the upcoming Milan Cortina Olympics in place of the injured Tampa Bay Lightning center Anthony Cirelli, as announced by Hockey Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee. Cirelli sustained an injury during the Lightning’s recent outdoor game against the Boston Bruins. Bennett, a two-time Stanley Cup champion and the 2025 Conn Smythe Trophy winner, has previously represented Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament. With 19 goals and 23 assists in 55 games this season, Bennett, 29, is recognized as a top candidate for replacing injured players in the forward position. The participation of Lightning forward Brayden Point, who was one of the initial six players named to Canada’s roster, remains uncertain due to a previous injury.
