Organizers have postponed professional rock climber Alex Honnold’s ropeless climb of the Taipei 101 skyscraper by 24 hours due to inclement weather conditions. Originally scheduled to be broadcast live on Netflix on Saturday local time in Taiwan, or Friday evening for U.S. viewers, the climb was delayed as rain persisted in Taipei shortly before the planned start. The climb has been rescheduled for Sunday morning in Taiwan, with a more favorable weather outlook of clear skies expected.
Prioritizing safety, Netflix emphasized the importance of ensuring a safe environment for the climb. Despite the delay, a crowd of approximately 100 spectators had gathered to witness the event, including Queenie Chang, a devoted Taiwanese fan of Honnold, who expressed understanding and support for the decision to postpone.
Organizers were already monitoring the possibility of light rain on the morning of the climb and were prepared to postpone the event if weather conditions posed a risk to Honnold’s safety. The live broadcast of the climb will now take place on Saturday evening in the U.S. at 5 p.m. PT or 8 p.m. ET.
