The suspension of the U.S. Army pilots who flew two helicopters near Kid Rock’s Tennessee residence during a training exercise while he expressed appreciation and saluted has been lifted, announced War Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday. Hegseth stated in a social media post that there would be no punishment or investigation, urging the pilots to continue their duties as patriots.
Previously, a U.S. Army spokesperson revealed that the crews of the two AH-64 Apache helicopters were grounded from flying pending an inquiry into their actions. Major Montrell Russell clarified that this suspension was a standard precautionary measure during ongoing investigations. The Army acknowledged that on March 28, two Apache helicopters from the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Campbell conducted a flight in the Nashville region, which garnered public and media attention. The Army assured a review of the flight’s adherence to FAA regulations and aviation safety standards.
In response to Hegseth’s statement, Deputy Pentagon press secretary Joel Valdez refrained from providing additional comments beyond the secretary’s social media post. As of now, an Army spokesperson has not responded to requests for comments.
Kid Rock, a vocal supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump, shared footage on his social media platforms on Saturday, showcasing the two helicopters flying near his property. The singer, positioned in front of his swimming pool with a sign labeling the location as “The Southern White House,” can be observed saluting one of the helicopters.
Additionally, military helicopters were spotted on the same day flying close to demonstrators in Nashville as they participated in “No Kings” protests denouncing Trump’s deportation policies, military actions in Iran, and other governmental decisions. Kid Rock commented on the video of the helicopters, expressing his patriotism and respect for those who have sacrificed for the country.
Unlike many artists, Kid Rock has been a steadfast supporter of Trump since his 2016 campaign. He has frequented the White House on multiple occasions, performed at MAGA events, and attended Republican convention-related functions. Trump has acknowledged Kid Rock, born Robert James Ritchie, as a longstanding friend known simply as “Bob.”
The military is expected to remain nonpartisan, loyal to the U.S. Constitution, and detached from political affiliations. Hegseth has been swift in reorganizing the military, dismissing high-ranking officials as he works to implement Trump’s national security agenda and eliminate what he perceives as discriminatory diversity initiatives.
Democratic lawmakers caution that the Trump administration is increasingly politicizing the military for personal gain. Separately, a non-profit organization dedicated to upholding the separation of church and state has filed a lawsuit over Hegseth-led prayer services conducted on government premises.
