In Minneapolis, tensions between ICE agents and protesters have intensified, with a video circulating showing a woman being forcibly removed from her car by masked agents. The woman, who identified herself as a disabled autistic individual trying to reach a doctor, was confronted on Tuesday near the location where Renee Nicole Good was fatally shot by an ICE agent the previous week.
The video, shared on YouTube by Freedom News TV, captures the woman sitting in her car with the driver’s side window down as multiple masked ICE agents approach and instruct her to move her vehicle. Despite unclear dialogue, the woman is seen driving slightly forward before being approached again by agents demanding her cooperation.
During the altercation, one agent attempts to open the driver’s side door without success, leading to another agent breaking the window of the passenger door. Amidst the chaotic scene, protesters and ICE agents can be heard shouting at each other and at the woman, urging her to drive away.
Subsequently, several agents converge on the vehicle, with one forcing the woman out of the car and onto the ground. Despite her protests about being disabled and in need of medical attention, the agents proceed to restrain her and remove her from the scene.
Additionally, tear gas, flash bang grenades, and pepper balls were deployed towards the protesters during the confrontation. ICE was contacted for comment on the incident by CBC News but did not respond.
According to a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson, the ICE officers were executing an arrest warrant for a 20-year-old man from Ecuador who had entered the U.S. illegally near El Paso, Texas, in 2019. The spokesperson stated that the crowd obstructed law enforcement operations, resulting in multiple arrests for offenses including obstruction and assaulting law enforcement.
As ICE operations continue in Minneapolis, residents have been actively expressing disapproval by booing, taunting, and blowing whistles at ICE agents. This grassroots movement aims to raise awareness, hold agents accountable, and emphasize public scrutiny of ICE activities. Homeland Security reported over 2,000 arrests in the state since early December.
