Get prepared for a new series of eliminations as the third installment of Big Brother Canada is set to make a return on CTV and Crave. The popular reality competition show will commence filming in Montreal next spring, with specifics about casting to be disclosed later, according to Bell Media’s recent announcements in Toronto.
The network will also broadcast the enduring U.S. version of Big Brother starting in the summer of 2027. The reality program, which pays homage to George Orwell’s renowned dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, brings together a group of participants, known as houseguests, in a purpose-built residence where they are constantly monitored through audio and video, isolated from the external world, and vie for cash prizes.
Contestants must navigate interpersonal conflicts and evolving relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, striving to evade eviction from the house and elimination from the game. Andre Bain, a lifestyle host and entertainment reporter currently co-hosting CTV’s daytime show The Social and previously seen on CBC’s daytime program The Goods, has been chosen to host the Canadian revival.
In a social media post on Thursday, Bain expressed her excitement, stating, “If you’ve watched me over the years, you know how much I love reality television, big personalities, unexpected twists and unforgettable moments. So to now be part of a franchise that has delivered all of that for decades is truly a dream come true.”
Bell Media’s agreement includes the show’s previous 12 seasons for fans to enjoy on Crave, along with the French-language version Big Brother Célébrités. Various adaptations of Big Brother have been broadcast in numerous countries since its inception in the late 1990s in the Netherlands, finding success across the globe from Brazil to the U.K., India to Australia.
Shaw Media and Corus Entertainment introduced a Canadian edition on Slice, a digital platform, in 2013 before transferring the popular series to the primary network Global two years later. Hosted by broadcaster and entertainment journalist Arisa Cox, who previously starred in the early 2000s reality series U8TV: The Lofters, the Canadian version encountered a hiatus after its fifth season, leading to a public outcry that prompted its return for a sixth season.
Global’s announcement of the show’s cancellation in June 2024 sparked fresh backlash from fans. Justin Stockman, Bell Media’s vice-president of global content, expressed enthusiasm for providing Canadian viewers with more of the engaging and memorable competitive social gameplay they cherish.
