U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed interest in acquiring Greenland, citing national security reasons. However, this move has raised concerns among Greenlanders regarding their own national security.
Inuit advocacy groups and Greenland residents in Canada strongly oppose the U.S.’s intentions towards their homeland. They denounce the idea of being pawns in geopolitical strategies orchestrated by distant authorities.
Sara Olsvig, the chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Council and a former member of both the Greenlandic and Danish parliaments, emphasized, “We want to make it clear that there is no such thing as a preferable colonizer.”
The possibility of the U.S. taking over Greenland has sparked fears of potential disruption within NATO, as highlighted by Canada’s former military commander.
While the situation continues to evolve, the voices of the Inuit community and Greenlanders remain resolute in rejecting any external control over their land.
