Rising talent Gabriel Diallo will lead Canada’s Davis Cup team in the upcoming qualifier against Brazil at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. The five-man roster also includes Liam Draxl, Alexis Galarneau, Nicolas Arsenault, and Cleeve Harper, as announced by Tennis Canada.

The Davis Cup tie is scheduled for February 6-7 at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre. Diallo, ranked 40th globally, is preparing for his 10th consecutive Davis Cup appearance. Having entered the top 100 in the ATP Tour rankings in 2024, he secured his first ATP Tour title at the Libema Open last year.

The outcome of this tie will determine which nation progresses to the second qualifying round in September. The top seven teams from the second round will advance to the Davis Cup Final 8 in November, joining defending champion Italy.

The Canada-Brazil matchup will feature two singles matches followed by a doubles match and two more singles matches on the second day. Canadian captain Frank Dancevic expressed confidence in the team’s strength, emphasizing the motivation to excel after missing the final stage last year.

Canada, the 2022 Davis Cup winner, earned their spot in the first qualifying round by defeating Israel 4-0 in a World Group I tie in Halifax last September. Draxl ranks 132nd in singles, Galarneau at 213, Arsenault at 501, and Harper at 94th in doubles.

In a previous victory, Diallo clinched his first ATP Tour title by defeating Zizou Bergs at the Libema Open. The team is gearing up to face a formidable Brazilian squad, aiming to secure a win in the upcoming Davis Cup qualifier.
