The Canadian Screen Awards will recognize actor Mike Myers, sportscaster Hazel Mae, and others during this year’s Canadian Screen Week. Myers, Mae, Canadian Film Centre executive director Maxine Bailey, and filmmaker Chandler Levack’s film “Mile End Kicks” will be honored for their significant impact on the film and television industry. Tammy Frick, CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, praised their achievements, highlighting Canada’s exceptional talent in the screen arts.
Canadian Screen Week will take place in Toronto from May 27 to May 31, culminating in the Canadian Screen Awards ceremony celebrating excellence in Canadian cinema, television, and digital media.
Mike Myers, known for his roles in “Austin Powers” and “Shrek,” will receive the prestigious Academy Icon Award. Hazel Mae, a prominent figure in Canadian sportscasting, will be presented with the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism. Maxine Bailey, the executive director of the Canadian Film Centre, will be honored with the Changemaker Award for her efforts in promoting diversity and inclusion in Canadian media.
Chandler Levack’s film “Mile End Kicks” will also be recognized with the Sustainable Production Award for its commitment to environmental leadership in both production practices and storytelling. The film showcases Montreal’s music scene while promoting sustainability through its production choices.
The Canadian Screen Awards ceremony, hosted by actor Andrew Phung, will be broadcast on CBC and CBC Gem on May 31 at 8 p.m. ET. This year’s ceremony will also be simulcast on CTV, Crave, Global, and STACKTV.
