Pop singer Chappell Roan announced on Monday that she has parted ways with the talent agency headed by Casey Wasserman, the chief of Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Wasserman came under fire for exchanging flirtatious emails with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell over two decades ago. He has since apologized for the communication with Maxwell, following the publication of personal emails between them.
Newly released files linked to the late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Maxwell’s former partner, by the U.S. Justice Department last month, contained flirtatious email exchanges between Wasserman and Maxwell from 2003, when Wasserman was married.
Roan took to Instagram to declare, “I am no longer represented by Wasserman, the talent agency led by Casey Wasserman.” She emphasized the importance of artists having representation that reflects their values and ensures their safety and dignity. Roan stated that her decision is rooted in the belief that bringing about meaningful change in the industry necessitates accountability and trustworthy leadership.
Wasserman, known for his roles in sports and entertainment, has denied any personal or business ties with Epstein. He clarified that his association with Maxwell occurred before their criminal activities came to light. The talent agency involved declined to comment immediately.
Meanwhile, Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence following her 2021 conviction in New York on various charges, including the sex trafficking of a minor. She was arrested in 2020 after federal prosecutors accused her of recruiting and grooming young girls for sexual encounters with Epstein between 1994 and 2004.
The release of numerous internal documents by the U.S. Justice Department regarding Epstein has exposed his connections to several prominent individuals, both prior to and after his 2008 guilty plea on prostitution charges involving a minor. Epstein’s death in a Manhattan jail in 2019 was ruled a suicide.
